Chasing Wisdom

Chasing Wisdom

wisdomIf you've ever heard my dad speak you've probably heard him say, "I'm starting a series, and I'm not sure when it will end." Well today I'm saying the same we're starting a series; a series on chasing.

Sometimes we can get caught up in chasing the wrong things thinking that we're doing what's right. For instance instead of chasing money perhaps we should chase moderation. And instead of chasing perfection we should chase purpose, but those are thoughts for another week.

This week we want to chase wisdom. Proverbs 4:5-7 says, "Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding."

Can you hear the urgency in these verses? The definition of get says it means to, "Succeed in attaining, achieving, or experiencing; obtain."

As we seek to choose the good part this year and live out what really matters it's important that we do these three things to fully lay hands on wisdom.

1. Read

Read all sorts of things. Get your own understanding for whatever subject you need and don't rely on whoever "they" are to inform you. But most importantly read your Bible. God gives wisdom freely to those who seek it.

2. Learn From The Mistakes of Others and Yourself

Don't make the same mistakes you've seen in others or that you've made yourself. Learn from the outcomes that resulted from previous choices and make new ones.

3. Let Wisdom Take The Lead

Sometimes we can receive good advice but not act on it for whatever reason. Don't allow fear or lack of faith to hold you back from what you know you need to do.

I hope these three tips help as you chase wisdom. I am chasing the wisdom of simplifying, slowing down and focusing on the big picture. Next week we'll continue our series on chasing. In what areas do you need to chase wisdom? Let me know on the Facebook page!

With Love,

P.S Encourage someone in their walk with our Savior and forward this to your friends!
